I think it's ok to ask for preferences, but I would be for a "at
most x" (even without a closed option list, where we could put any
number (and 0 would be a signal that it's "none")) vote with the
option chosen be the highest number having a majority

Imho, it's better to have a single funding option and for/against funding the proper amount.
I'm not sure I see the point in multiple amounts, as that should be decided in advance. What if 2 vote 300, 2 vote 400, and 2 vote 100? Do we then provide no funding because different people wanted to vote for different amounts?
I think the PLC should vote for/against a resolution for a specific amount and not play the "let's try and do it cheaper" game.
I recommend future votes be of the format"For" and "Against"(with reason for denying funding).
No need for extra options at this stage in the game.

I vote C.
With 5 c's and 1 b, the resolution is to donate $480 to the OSUOSL.
Also, curious what people think about that voting format? I liked being more expressive with it, but I'm curious what others think.

For our webserver and other online services we rely on OSU's Open Source Lab to run the physical servers. They offer this for free to Open Source projects, but in the past we've made donations when we could to help support their project.
For example:
In the past, we've donated $200. We've grown. Inflation has happened. That is probably not the amount we'd want to give today.
Martin reported that the webserver alone is a decent sized machine:
And if you look at the Linode calculator I think if we just used Linode that would cost ~$20-$30/mo.
I've structured the voting similar to how it was done for the Mastodon donation vote so that hopefully provides flexibility for folks without requiring multiple votes.
Pono has said that the SFC can handle the contribution to OSU OSL along with other donations from SFC projects, so he will execute the donation for us.
Proposal
Donate the following amount to OSU OSL:
- a. equiv. $20/mo for a total of $240- b. equiv. $30/mo for a total of $360, or less- c. equiv. $40/mo for a total of $480, or less- d. $__/mo for a total of $___ , or less- e. None- f. Other: ____
