Permission to use Inkscape trademark for promotional stickers?
Hi Inkscape Board,
I was directed to this list by the #inkscape IRC channel.
The Red Hat Summit is next week and we're looking to give out (gratis) some stickers to promote free software & culture at the conference. We would love to use the Inkscape logo on one of the stickers.
I've attached a comp of the sticker sheet so you can understand the context the logo would be used in.
Would this usage of the Inkscape logo be okay? If not, are there modifications we could make to make it usable?
Thank you so much, ~m

Inkscape logo seems OK to me, even though GNOME's logo should get a circle as a bg for consistency's sake. The GIMP logo is totally not OK. Please use the icon from http://git.gnome.org/browse/gimp/tree/desktop instead.

It does have a circle, the cutlines for the dies aren't included in the comp (sorry for the confusion!)

Will do.

Actually if it's full-color for consistency, we actually prefer the newer icons be used as well. http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~inkscape.dev/inkscape/trunk/view/head:/share/ic...

Okay, we can do that. It was originally going to be a limited color print but we found a vendor who can do full color so some are full and some are limited.
If we use that logo, then, is it safe to assume we have permission to produce the Inkscape logo sticker? (All I need is an email confirmation.)

Hmmm... it appears you did not get Ted's message yet. Given that it's meant to represent the project, then for this purpose, yes indeed you can. At some point in the future we will have a finalized and tangible trademark policy so there will be no need for to ask (it will all be spelled out in legalese).
Thank you for asking, you're in the clear.
Cheers, Josh

+1, thanks for asking Máirín.

We're in process to having an official trademark policy, but unfortunately it's not complete yet. In general, we're just trying to say "as long as you're meaning us, use our marks", though there's a bit more legalese than that :-)
What does Red Hat legal need? I'm sure we don't have any issue, but we don't have a legalish sounding thing saying that (yet).
