I've been playing around about idea to provide support for Image/Graphicsmagick in inkscape. So we could import 88 Vector- and Imageformats used (http://www.graphicsmagick.org/www/formats.html or http://www.imagemagick.org/www/formats.html) but i been wondering should it been done like ill2svg or something deep cutting in inkscape code? Problem is that SVG output of programs isn't so good it should be. So what do you think? is this just a stupid idea?
It was my understanding that Imagemagick actually turned most of the formats into bitmaps, and then spit out an SVG file with an embedded bitmap in it. Is this true? If it is, I don't know how useful using it for importing would be. But, it should be easy to hook up 'convert' using extensions...
