It's supposed to be quite a difficult piece of machinery internally,
and some things have already changed. E.g. it mentions ccHost
integration, whereas these days it would rather by GetHotNewStuff
integration (e.g. inkscapestuff.org) which alone is probably worth a
GSoC project.
Also, the bit regarding procedural templates probably requires changes
in the way extensions register themselves in menu etc.
I'd love to mentor you, but with no real programming experience
whatsoever I'd make a lousy mentor.
