Hi guys,
since I'm working with Linux, I'll never have to personally, but inkscape has become my favorite graphics tool, and I need to share files with win users. Now since svg isn't supported that much, I thought, the easiest solution might be to just have the win users install inkscape... how hard is this? I mean including installing gtk. I hope this is real simple and you can point me at some howto.
If you just want the windows users to be able to view the files then all you need is the Adobe SVG Viewer/Web Browser Plugin, which they might already have becuase it is included with certain versions of Adobe Acrobat Reader (and SVG capable applications like Jasc Web Draw also install it, maybe Inkscape should too?).
If you want another option and like Java based programs Batik might be an option (there is a basic SVG application called Kiyut that is based on Batik that looks quite good).
Also I wonder if there'll be work done on the ps export soon. Though I really am looking forward to pangoisation being finished, I really need a proper export of transparency for ps, to make pdfs for sharing, instead of pngs, since pngs are huge, for A3 or A4 posters since I need at least 300 dpi.
Inkscape can be compiled with Gnome-Print support although I dont think anyone has looked at it in a while. Gnome-Print supports PDF directly so it is worth checking out if you dont mind compiling your own copy of Inkscape.
Hope that helps
Sincerely
