"Clean up unused gradients, patterns, etc..." is less jargony, but too long for a menu item.
Per previous discussions, what we really need instead of the menu item is a "library" dialog which lists all the gradients etc. in the document, and a "Clean Up" button in it (in which context the button's function should be fairly self-explanatory). We just need someone to write it...
