I actually tried a rough implementation of something like this based on an earlier blueprint but got bogged mainly on two issues (as far as I can remember):
- How to create a nice way to switch between stroke and fill color
(technically, I sort of like the indicator in the mock up but have no idea whatsoever how to implement it in gtk).
Some code could be harvested from GIMP, no?
- I got into trouble with the marker combo boxes. What I'd like is a
combobox with two columns, of which only one is shown when it's not dropped down (this would contain the preview, the second column the name). Alternatively I'd like to be able to say that the combo boxes have to fill the space given to them (instead of enlarging the containing box).
Again, why not use GIMP's widget that has a button with preview? When you click it, you can switch between list view and thumbnail view, zoom in and out etc. You can place three such button in one row (beginning, middle and end markers) instead of three rows right now.
