In an ideal world, it would be nice if people had the option to use mercurial to commit to a git repository in a similar fashion to how some people (me, at least) use git to commit to an SVN repository today. I think that would do a pretty decent job of making everyone happy.
For me, an even happier thing would be keeping the ability to use svn regardless of your switching to git or whatever. I never work on more than one piece of code at a time and svn is perfectly adequate for me. I really don't see a sufficient reason for me to spend time on learning yet another system.
I don't think you'll spend much time learning. And likewise I don't think there is much in the way of user unapprochability in git anymore. There is no need for people who have no desire to use or are confused by the wealth of functionality in git to learn those parts. Everyday operations can be summarized in a few paragraphs or perhaps just a table mapping between svn and git. People who want those parts, however, are lost unless the base system supports them.
Bulia, what operations do you commonly use in svn?
Mental, what parts of git do you feel are particularly user unfriendly that are less so in mercurial?
