Of course - it is always a good idea, cairo or not :)

Obviously that provides no guarantees that code can be reused or that it would speed up cairofication, but perhaps it would seem more bite-sized and doable for other contributors to submit small fixes and patches. Plus we get better PDF export which is good in itself. :)
