Well, here's a really simple svg and renderings I got from both Inkscape and Batik.
Examining those two bitmap images, you can notice, how the colors in batik rendering range from semi-opaque gray to transparent white, but colors in inkscape rendering range from semi-opaque black to transparent black.
However, it can as well be, that I just don't know how to use batik to produce those images.
