I also plan to submit these svg images to the Gnome developers as soon as I can figure out a way to make shadows in a nicer way.
i think there are two parts of the problem:
- the first half is creating the shadows, and here i can't see other
solution than http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=93438&atid=604309&func=deta...
- the second one is displaying shadows in Gnome: if you add shadows
using the Blur filter, will be librsvg able to render them?
I downloaded and tested both http://www.w3.org/TR/SVG11/images/filters/filters00.svg and http://www.w3.org/TR/SVG11/images/filters/filters01.svg and librsvg seems to be able to render them almost perfect. I tried to implent filters using a text editor following some examples of filters from the net, but this far I have not been able to get satisfied with my efforts. Here is my results this far: http://ramnet.se/~nisse/diverse/temp/writing_mode_lr_withshadow.svg
It would be really nice if Inkscape could implent filters soon (yes, I know, this is on the roadmap) since the HIG suggests that icons should use a dropshadow. - Andreas
