I looked too and there is nothing saying you shouldn't put markup in the statusbar.
I thought maybe instead there was something saying you shouldn't put markup in the window title but there wasn't.
There are still the other reasons that have been suggested but as the work is already done there is certainly no harm in trying it.
But although I was skeptical at first, I think it does provide an incremental benefit (provided it's not overused).
