Using MacPorts, clang-3.3/clang-3.4/clang-3.5 currently build for 10.6 64-bit and install from prebuilt binaries. If there are remaining problems a ticket would be appreciated.
I had things settle down enough to have time to re-try once again. This time it fails much earlier in the process, on libffi which happens to be a dependency for llvm. One of the work-arounds listed is to just compile it with llvm :-(
Oh, and ticket:
libffi @3.1 fails to build on 32-bit systems https://trac.macports.org/ticket/44170
However, latter comments point out that it is also failing on 64-bit systems.
:-(
FYI, the macports guys got libffi resolved and I was able to start rebuilding ports yesterday. I did hit one error with libcdr, but a PPC fix corrected that for me locally.

So *FINALLY* I am able to start a compile of Inkscape again. :-)
