there has been a change in the Inkscape output of .ps that will probably affect you. Previously when you chose .ps output and used the Option "Convert text to Paths", you would get path data that would be suitable for a cutter. Currently, in the development version, if you choose the output option "No" for convert to Path, then you will get a bitmap, which is probably what you are seeing, which is of no use to you, and if you choose "Yes" to convert to Path, you will get nothing as output.
