Don't worry, it's easy :) You just copy and paste illustrations into separate files, that's all (in addition to creating DocBook, that is). Small problems can be fixed later.
Ok, you're right. This is easy. I'm ashamed to say that I've never worked with layers or locking in Inkscape before. I think I have it figured out now.
In figure 16 (rounded stars) the numbers were part of the unlocked graphics layer. I think they should be locked for consistency, no?
I took a look at the svg file. Those tspans are brutal. Is there a simple way to extract all the text in the text layer?
