Just downloaded yesterday's snapshot.
Open and Save As... remember their last directories now, which is good.
But Save a copy... still does not, and it also doesn't remember the last format chosen. Actually it seems to use the last Save As... directory, but then doesn't set it. I think the proper thing is for "save as" and "save a copy" to have independently remembered directories. Filed as bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/241135
One more thing the GTK dialog did, IIRC, was to automatically set the default "Save a copy..." file name to something based on the original file name + newly chosen extension. The new native dialog just leaves it blank. Some similar bugs existed in the tracker but seem to be marked as fixed, and probably related to the GTK dialog rather than the native one. Actually I would find Inkscapes dialogs much easier to use if they just remembered where they were from invocation to invocation. Then those links would be much less critical.
This was fixed recently and should work now on both Windows and Linux.
Cool. I had a snapshot from June 6, so I guess it must have been fixed quite recently.
What about remembering the last format used for "Save a copy as..."?
