Yeah. FYI, Metacity has a programmatic interface, libWnck, which can control many WM attributes. Since it uses X events and properties, it can apparently be used for any WM. So a developer wanting to do a bit of research into controlling such things might take a look at it. It's very easy to use; I used Wnck on a project last summer to tile a set of windows on the desktop nicely.
