First, thanks for very useful extension.
What does it matter what shape the registration mark has, as long as it allows you to detect misregistrations?
There is difference. First, the marks should be placed to corners, because in cornerst the possible misplacement is the biggest, so you could detect it easier (the worst place would be to place it to very middle of image, where possible rotation would be unnoticed at all).
Everything else is explained in example included.
