Hi Bill, Josh,
sorry for not answering earlier. I didn't have internet access during the weekend.
Please remember that the 3D Box tool, as with all other GSoC projects, is not close to being finished... we're just getting to the mid-term progress report stage (and Max had a late start this summer to boot). Please be patient and see what Max has in store. With the quality of his proposal, as well as knowing his mentor's reputation, I can assure you that it will all come together and make sense (as well as be incredibly intuitive) prior to the first official release to include it.
Thanks for the backup, Josh. :)
I am aware that many things don't work as expected yet, and maybe it's a bit early to ask for public feedback since many problems may only be due to the incompleteness of the tool (and I am not that much aware of them because I have the final version in mind).
But I think that at a stage where some design decisions still need to be made - even if they are small and could be changed later on - it's good to have an idea of what people expect from such a tool. Thus I'm glad to hear Bill's opinion (and other people's, for that matter). He is totally right to complain if something appears unintuitive to him (although in this case part of the unintuitivity comes from the bug he described). That doesn't mean that we will radically change the intended behaviour, but it's always good to know what people think and if there is room to react, there is no reason not to do it.
Once the box is created it can certainly be resized by dragging handles (see below).
No, that doesn't work if you don't do the shift thing initially. So maybe it's just a bug. You get two handles that work, and a third one floating in space that moves diagonally but has no effect.
Bulia already pointed out that it's a bug, which is fixed in my local version (the fix will be submitted to SVN later today, along with some other changes).
He was asking for feedback so I was trying to give some is all.
As I said, it's always appreciated. :) Don't hesitate to make further comments.
Cheers, Max
