Inkscape's not going to be any less relevant as an svg editor or design tool without html 5 support; This is somewhat backwards.
Developers and their clients should develop inkscape or extensions that play nicely with html 5 if they want. It's a matter of need driving development.
Obviously namespaces should stay, that's just mad. ;-)
