Good idea. This has been proposed before. I think it is a fantastic idea. You might look at:
In fact it was already partially implemented during GSoC 2009, as the D-Bus API project. It only needs to be better integrated. IIRC there were some problems with the build system, which I was supposed to fix (unfortunately I didn't have enough time to look into it yet), but I think it's more practical to integrate it after the build system is changed to use a customized version of Waf on all platforms.
