Hi Anatoly,
can you sum up the changes you would like to suggest for the releases entries on the Inkscape website in a bug report at https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape-web/issues , please?
Then we can sort through them, and check which ones need a code change, and which ones are content suggestions, and try to figure out how we can make things more obvious on the website, by adjusting design.
You aren't, by chance, a web designer or UX/Usability engineer?

Actually I missed 1.0 info, because banner says 0.92 + devel, so I thought that master is on 0.92 and 1.0 must be in some other branch. I also missed those huge black buttons - really didn't expect Linux to be a navigational menu, so I clicked "All platforms" gray button, which gives this page:
https://inkscape.org/release/master/platforms/
Gnu/Linux March 14, 2018, 10 p.m. Gnu/Linux : Snap Feb. 21, 2018, 10:41 p.m. Source : Archive Feb. 3, 2016, 2:45 p.m. HowTo Gnu/Linux : Ubuntu : ppa Feb. 3, 2016, 1:07 a.m. Source : Version control : GitLab Repository Feb. 3, 2016, 1:07 a.m. Windows : 32-bit : binary (7z) Feb. 3, 2016, 1:07 a.m. Download Windows : 64-bit : binary (7z) Feb. 21, 2018, 10:13 p.m.
As you see, the versions listed here are badly outdated for master, and there is no info at the page footer about how and when this page was generated.
The dates you see are the dates of the first entry (or last edit, don't know, actually). When you look at the corresponding pages, you will see why they don't require an update (i.e. links don't change, and always hold the must up-to-date content, like the ppa).
Maybe the date should be left out on that page, though, if it causes confusion - or maybe it should only be added for those items that have a downloadable file that is hosted at inkscape.org.
The release info is up-to-date. The version names are current. Developers would need to decide to rename the development version, as explained in the previous email.
See you on gitlab!
Maren
I don't see any code that pushes --edge snap on each build in https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape/blob/master/.gitlab-ci.yml
I will probably go with PPA version, but it would be nice to know how these two issues can be fixed: 1. outdated website info with no link back to the sources and build log 2. missing snap versions

Hi Anatoly,
I suspect you must have gotten to the page you mention via https://inkscape.org/release/master/ ?
The text on that page there mentions 1.0.
Clicking on the 'snap' option after clicking on the 'Gnu/Linux' option gives me a text that explains how to install the latest master with snap.
I agree that the version number that is chosen for the current master branch is not intuitive. I think it just has this number because it has always been like that - release new version, append 'devel' to the version number. I'd probably choose to 'release new version - increase number - append 'devel''.
You can find the option for the ppa on the 'Gnu/Linux' overview page mentioned above, or you can compile Inkscape yourself, for example following these instructions, if you want to keep your 'normal' Inkscape and also have a menu icon for the other version: https://gitlab.com/Moini/make_ink.

Hi again.
https://inkscape.org/release/master/platforms/ doesn't mention upcoming 1.0 at all, and I don't see there an easy way to use development builds in Ubuntu 18.10. Like PPA or better snap.
✗ sudo snap info inkscape ... snap-id: tIrcA87dMWthuDORCCRU0VpidK5SBVOc channels: stable: 0.92.3 (4274) 177MB - candidate: 0.92.3 (4349) 180MB - beta: ↑ edge: 0.92+devel (4265) 192MB -
For this snap I'd expect the serial number for edge to be higher than stable, and that means the snap is not updated. So is there any other recommended (which means user friendly in this context) to check latest development versions of Inkscape to give a quick feedback?
