When you paste an image into a Word / ODT file, it is not a link to that file on your hard disk.
The use of links is also quite common in large Microsoft Word documents and has been for years.
Yes, you can have links in Word documents. Yes, they are useful, sometimes indispensible. But you never get them if you don't say that you want them! If you don't say that you want a link, you get an embedded image! That is the gist of what I'm saying. I don't want to remove link support, or make it harder to use. I want inexperienced users to stop breaking their documents.
