BPC is a common term. Color management requires learning :) Any sort of more verbose explanation is likely to be several sentences long.
A look at http://www.gamutvision.com/docs/blackpoint.html reveals that it is indeed usually presented as a fairly technical term, and a precise understanding requires study. But what about something like:
"Lighten darkest tones to avoid clipping"?
Failing that, a reference to somewhere appropriate would be more useful than what's currently there.
