Actually, it was the buyout of Macromedia by Adobe that made me make the switch to using, and eventually helping out with the development of, open source graphics tools. I had a lot of Freehand documents that I had built for my freelance clients that I decided right then and there to convert to more future-proofed formats like SVG and the OASIS formats. I'm much happier having made the switch. :)
