[Inkscape-devel] How to get Inkscape to produce <line> instead of <path>?

When I draw a straight line in Inkscape, it generates a <path> element and never a <line>. If I import an existing SVG file with a <line>, edit and save, the <line> changes to <path>.

Is it possible to have Inkscape output <line>? Should I care?
