Hi,
Just replying to the last mail in this thread I saw, without commenting on anything specific.
What about giving users the option to generate all three different documents, so that they can inspect them and decide for themselves which one they like the best? THAT option could be pre-selected, so only veteran users that understand the technical details need to guess what to do, and the default is to do all of them instead. Or would it still be too difficult for many to spot the differences without knowing what to look for?
Perhaps a bit awkward to work into the flow of opening a document (which of the three generated files will be open? all three? for instance) but maybe something that can be worked into something that works, even if not exactly as I described it here. Thoughts?
That's a really interesting idea. Rather than back it up and generate each subsequent version if you wanted to try all out, it could keep the original file then autoconvert to the other formats and say if the file has problems we made other versions for you in the same directory.
We would have to provide guidance on evaluating each version to help them figure out which one would work best, but it does bring the stakes down a little to have 4 versions of the file.
