Especially for this usage, I definitely have to back Bulia on an option here.
This might also be a good area to look at what is being represented in a logical (versus physical) fashion and try to encapsulate it that way. There's probably an opportunity to begin looking at the functional structure in a new way. A little more on MVC design of the code might be handy, at least as far as the option goes. And we might get something where the size of the area and the complexity of the UI drive the options for what is displayed. Bulia listing out *why* it was he prefers the other layout is a good start for that how to be looking at things.
