Sorry for the OT drift :)
Actually, it was the buyout of Macromedia by Adobe that made me make the switch to using, and eventually helping out with the development of, open source graphics tools.
Yeah - that scared me. Now there's only one (and Corel). Shades of M$ville creeping into the design community.
I wish there were open alternatives to Flash, Director and Dreamweaver (I know there are attempts, but none come close). Macromedia was doing good stuff for a while. I never knew about open source and open formats back then, and I suspect a lot of designers now also have no clue just how time-locked their design files are.
