Don't forget to submit to the Open Clip Art Library (www.openclipart.org) as well! They look great!
Thx, Jon
But then they would be placed under Public Domain, right?
Yes.
Shouldn't they be licenced under the GPL, like the rest of the program?
Should? It is more a question of what you want and how much you are willing to give away.
The absolute minimum Inkscape would need would be for you to license the "code" of your SVG under the General Public License (it's all a bit weird for data files) but if you were willing to put them in the Public Domain it would mean one less licensing detail for the developers to worry about.

Yes, I know relicencing an application from the GPL can be bit of a headache, but that is also the strength of the license. I have created these icons for use with free software and I would not like them to end up in a non-free application. There is of course the possibility to dual-license them, but I'm afraid this is not possible in this case. The thing is that some of them are based on icons from the Gnome Icon Theme and those icons are already licensed under the GPL (or is it LGPL?), so it's not up to me in this case. I also plan to submit these svg images to the Gnome developers as soon as I can figure out a way to make shadows in a nicer way. - Andreas
