Of course, I'm not really
sure most folks care about DTDs much anymore,
given they don't play well
with namespaces in general.
I care. In my special purpose inkscape is not only a drawing program
but a (_THE_) svg-editor.
SVG per se does not necessitate using DTD. You can use any other schema language just as well, if you have an SVG schema written in that language. It's really a pity that W3C keeps pushing DTDs with every standard it produces (instead of using the much more powerful XML Schema, W3C's own standard!), thus prolonging DTD's agony.
Sorry for ranting, but DTD is really not adequate for the XML era. These days, it's like using Cobol.
