I meant in the GUI, i.e., the two icons you proposed. They can't reflect all states the setting might be in.

I mean correct if wrong, but you want the markers always drawn on top so you can... see them? Drawing them anywhere but on top would constitute an error, imho.

I am sure people will come up with valid use cases where you want them below.

Currently, I'd just like not to have to resort to clones to add a usable outline to text. I want that so bad I can taste it. :)
