Does that mean that you will be able to convert a LPE to basic paths (destructively of course), in the same way objects like stars and spirals can be converted?

I'm afraid this will inevitably lead to discrepancies, as it always did with stars and spirals. A very old problem, I remember we discussed it. A check of whether the given params correspond to the given d= is going to be unreliable because of varying (and now even user-settable) rounding.
