GitHub only allows a rather small subset of file types as attachments. Important for Inkscape: SVG files are *not* allowed, as well as HTML, CSS and JavaScript files, videos and archives except ZIP.
gitlab seems to to accept SVG. There is a 10MB file limit but otherwise I could upload SVGs there.
I didn't try other file types but the file selector didn't appear to impose any particular limitations as to type.
