Talking with a friend today, we came up with the idea of renaming the "Edit group" feature to "temporary ungroup", since that is closer to what it does (from the visual user's perspective). "Edit parent" would then become "regroup".
Renaming it doesn't seem like a great idea.
He also noted that Flash lets you do something comparable by double-clicking on a group. That seems like maybe a good idea here too.
The idea in principle sounds great, from the users perspective why shouldn't you be able to reach inside a group and change things? This would make for a more straight forward "realistic" kind of manipulation and save the users from needing to worry about the implementation detials.

Bulia, I'm pretty sure the Gnome Guidelines prohibit or at least discourage the use of markup in the status bar. It also risks creating a lot of extra work adding extra markup to the other status bar messages. The statusbar can and will be disabled so it should not be used for any really important information. Essential information that should not be ignored belongs in a Message Dialog.
