Theme changers are quite common in shareware/freeware apps for windows, so I don't think that would be a big deal if we put Tangos as default and let people change it back to the current set if they don't like it. That would be enough for them (they won't be forced to Tango) and would be nice for people who prefers Tango because they fit with the other free apps.
I love the tango theme but I appreciate the fact that key developers think otherwise. Perhaps the attitude Inkscape should adopt is the same as Firefox and OpenOffice and have different distro-specific default themes. In both these apps, the default icon theme is different on different OSs. Tango can be the default on Ubuntu, while the current theme can be the default on standalone installers such as autopackage or windows.
