Even if we don't hear back from the author, I would like to ask someone proficient in Python to have a look at the problems found. They are probably not difficult to fix. This patch has the great advantage that AI import will (at least somehow) work via Python without Perl, which means Windows (we carry Python with us but not Perl).
... and OS X where perl extensions do not work either (because of a problem in detecting OS X existing perl installation).
