I like the entries by hrum and needcoffee the best, but to be honest I am not really happy with any of them yet.
Maybe the restriction of only being able to submit two entries is limiting people from adding further polish? I notice a comment in the needcoffee piece about this.
For future contests we may want to re-evaluate whether to limit the number of submissions, or to make it clear that they can send updates for an entry until the submission deadline.
