I agree that it's a sticking point. I think we've also already proven bad at the stabilizing an API with lib2geom (it's a lot of work is right). We could however just say it's not stable and therefore not recommended nor actively supported for 3rd party use at this time. Also, isn't the stuff we'd want to share between the two that we wouldn't want to maintain where a private api would be appropriate?
