It would help if Inkscape could produce a pdf file in the PDF X-3 format. That gets around the CMYK problem insofar as many printers have new printer and prepress software (e.g., LSI, Brandt-Doubleday) that will handle the conversion automatically from RGB to CMYK.
I can always import into Scribus and then export in PDF X-3 but that is an extra step.
