WHAT IS CAUSING THIS AND HOW CAN I MAKE IT STOP? - IS THERE A CORRECTIVE PATCH OR SOMETHING?

you are going to have to downgrade to 0.42 i believe. 0.43 is for win2k and higher due to GTK libs not being compatible with older versions.
