Dude, gtkmm would be a step up for us. Much of the codebase is still C-style GTK/GObject code[1]. With occasional lingering GTK 1.x-isms. Ick.
We do plan to replace it with Cairo when that's ready, but realistically that probably can't happen at least until Cairo's 1.0 release.
Now you know why we went for Qt :-).
Serious question: would Qt help us in that regard? QCanvas' imaging model doesn't look very rich, and we need an offline renderer too.
