That in turn requires that I download using a package called "pip" which I don't have. Or I can build from source, but that requires that I have libxml2 and libxslt including header files.
What's wrong with the lxml provided by your distro? eg: apt-get install python-lxml

I have used Slackware since the 1990s. I just installed a Kubuntu partition too just for Inkscape use.
