Hi all,
I wanted those on the list to get an update on the road to 1.2, as well as add some relevant tidbits to the world of Scribus.
1. If you have not visited the http://www.scribus.net web site recently, we are pleased to have Petr Vanek join the Scribus team. He is concentrating on adding more cool features for the scripter. He has created a nice font preview plug-in. You can download tarballs, Fedora or SuSE 9.0 RPMS from http://www.scribus.net
2. There is an Irix build for Scribus available on http://www.nekochan.net It would be good to know if anyone has tried Scribus on Irix. Screen caps would be welcome.
3. Bug Tracker - The bug tracker has been a great success there have been currently 324 bugs have been posted and over 225 are closed. Of the remaining open bugs, 76 are feature requests. 18 of 19 crash bugs have been closed.
4. Seeking a Mandrake volunteer. If there is someone interested in building Mandrake RPMS which can be hosted on www.scribus.net, please contact me off-list.
5. Thanks to Alex Moskalenko - there are now updated Scribus 1.1.5 Debian packages and nightly cvs builds for Debian.
6. The Scribus team has been invited by Linux User magazine to exhibit again at the London Linux expo in April. Come meet us there. details: http://www.linuxexpo.org.uk
7. Gimp2-pre4 was just released. GIMP 2.0 is close :) You can now edit images within Scribus directly with the GIMP. Today's cvs has a new for selecting external tools, so you can choose between GIMP 1.2.x or GIMP 2.0pre.x This also allows you to have your choice of Ghostscript versions. More news and a mini how to for having parallel installs of Ghostscript coming soon.
8. Inkscape On-Line meeting. Developers from the Scribus team and the Inkscape Team met on-line a few days ago. Many good things are already coming from the meeting. Franz has added some fixes for making text import better from Inkscape SVG files and the Inkscape team is working on support for Open Type fonts, which Scribus already has.
With a note of thanks to help from Patrick Smith aka Bandi Pat aka Magic Page for his help,I have built gpg signed Fedora-1 and SuSE 9.0 RPMS for Inkscape 0.37. You can find links on the http://inkscape.org home page.
Cheers,
Peter
