We'll see. The work I'm doing right now on PS/PDF export has direct relation to that, as it also uses cairo to render the document, and I think we will be able to reuse much of that code in the screen rendering.
So now a side question based on your response. For people that want to see us move to cairo, would the most helpful thing they could do be to improve/troubleshoot/bugfix our PS/PDF export? Obviously that provides no guarantees that code can be reused or that it would speed up cairofication, but perhaps it would seem more bite-sized and doable for other contributors to submit small fixes and patches. Plus we get better PDF export which is good in itself. :)
