Well my first post to the list, without actually having received a digest yet, is to ask Bryce how he made the over-under effect in the celtic knot in the screenshot.
The hard way! ;-)
I tried a bunch of different tricks but wasn't happy with the results. Drawing the curves and outlining them was straightforward and fairly simple. The over-under stuff required a lot of copy-and-paste, node-editing, and fiddling. Layering obviously is not very helpful - this is by definition a twistly weird layering problem. I suspect that there's some programmatic way of doing it. Not sure that'd be as rewarding though. ;-)
I have a suspicion that the boolean patch that showed up last month would make shorter work, but haven't tried it.
Celtic knots are a fascination of mine: http://members.rogers.com/rcrosbie/celtic_svg.htm (older drawings)
Wow, nice! Yeah I'm quite a fan too. I visited Ireland a bit over a year ago and am extremely fascinated with what an elegant artform it can be. I'm also rather amazed at how scrollwork in general has disappeared from modern graphic arts. I blame it all on HTML's square-table-centric limitations. I have a dream that if/when SVG becomes as commonplace as HTML, that we might see a resurgence in elegant lines and curves.
I use SVG to create plans for my woodworking hobby. http://members.rogers.com/rcrosbie/woodworking.htm
Wow, you've got some amazing work there. I haven't looked at it all yet but this one's brilliant: http://members.rogers.com/rcrosbie/images/woodworking/plate5of3b.jpg
Nathan and I are also into woodworking; I'm pretty much a novice still, but hope to eventually get good.
I browsed the wiki and saw the celtic knot plugin idea. I'm naturally all for it. :) Douglas Zongker has a neet celtic knot generator using a tiling method with output in postscriot here: http://isotropic.org/uw/knot/
Cool, add this link to the wiki there. It's got a license condition - non-commercial use only. But maybe its algorithm can be reused or if it can be directly made into a plugin the licensing may not be an issue.
I really hope I can provide some input to inkscape in the future.
Good to have you!

PS. I hope there are no flag posts. :)

If we want to set up a gallery, I think we'd want to do it as a DMS so we don't tie folks up having to manually post them to the site.
