I think you did. It is possible, though -- it just causes problems.
I think we actually had multiple exporters in trunk for a while, but people complained because they didn't understand the difference between the two (and neither was 100% "better" -- each one did some things right that the other didn't). Besides that, it also caused problems with inconsistent behavior due to code that looked for "the" PDF export extension.
