Perhaps not useful for exporting to EPS but for those who want easily flatten transparency of complex objects including shadows or other effects here are two simple filters : "Opaque background" adds a white opaque background and "Opaque background color" is the same + one flood primitive which allows to color the background of the filter area.

An useful tip : group already filtered objects before applying these filters (that's not necessary for unfiltered semi-transparent bitmaps).
