I'd disagree. I'm thinking of things like graph paper where the major lines are red and the minor lines are blue. I don't think that should be the default, but I do think it should be possible.

Agree with Bulia.
Good grid paper is the same size, and the grid should be visible as little as possible. Having grid lines of different colors is not very good, it might pass as data when there's not, and it add nothing. Thickness or opacity difference is perfect.
