I think it is absolutely fantastic to see the LPE system be used in this way. I was dreaming of just this sort of thing when Mental, Bbyak and I were brainstorming this on IRC: using LPE as a generic framework to unify lots of disparate tools. I don't think you should in any way be ashamed of proposing a project that is accomplishable. You found last year that even though you completed your project successfully there were and remain a number of things that could still be polished. This project satisfies a number of long standing feature requests. And with a slightly diminished scope this could allow you to really make it shine within the summer's time constraints.
